5/28/2004 03:17:40 PM|||Britt|||Last night, Kimmie and I went to see the The Decemberists at the Aladdin Theatre, which is only a few blocks from our house. We both liked the opening band, The Places. Liked them enough to buy a CD.

We had to leave before The Decemberists finished but enjoyed the show. The Decemberists definitely have their own style. The crowd consisted mainly of young people, with a few older guys scattered in here and there. Most of the older guys looked older, too. Fortunately, for me, I shaved that day and blended right in.

So to depart from the nineteen-eighties and show how an older guy can keep up with the scene, I add Castaways and Cutouts to my Top Forty After Forty list.

For current music, I would not rate them as high as Belle and Sebastian or Lemon Jelly, but, hey, they’re a local band and fun to see live. Their tour is just kicking off, so look for them.|||108578266192440834|||The Decemberists
