Unmediated

I’ve been slowly cutting back on the amount of media begging for my attention these days. It started with culling my RSS feeds down to 31, which could still be trimmed a bit more. I subscribe to four podcasts but iTunes stopped updating two of them.

I’m cancelling Netflix and Audible. I still don’t own a cell phone, nor a PDA. I have one magazine subscription. I’ve stopped buying books until I read the ones I have.

I avoid YouTube and Google Video, as well as forums. I still visit MetaFilter occasionally, which I preferĀ  to Digg. As much as I’d love to read your blog or listen to your podcast, I have to get on with my own life.

Everything seems to flow in a circle. The same links and stories get popular at the biggest social networking sites around the same time. Everyone has an opinion about the latest Apple product or hot topic of the day. Tomorrow, it’s something else. Tag it, bookmark it, add a comment, write a post, etc.

It’s all so tiring.
